About Us
Chinnor Silver Band is situated in the village of Chinnor in South Oxfordshire, and has its own band room in the village, located on Lower Road (check the contact us section for a map), where it practices on Wednesday evenings. The band has been in existence for about 160 years (established c1850), and plays a wide range of music from traditional brass Band and classical pieces to modern rock and pop.
The band provides entertainment throughout the year at fetes, garden parties, concerts etc, and has also performed on television and in advertisements.
In the past few years we have seen a resurgence in the organisation of the band with the introduction of the training band and learner tutoring. The band comprises a large age range and is steadily progressing musically under the leadership of its new Musical Director Ollie Hallstead-Brooks.
Chinnor Silver Band is currently in the National Second Section & takes part in contests all around the country.
Historically, as one might expect with any band, families have always played a big part in the band structure. Today is no exception with many family groups present in the band’s membership.
Many of the musicians are members of long standing, although the players have been strengthened from time to time with new members. The band consists of about 25 players and we have vacancies for new members.
If you have an instrument and would like to join, you are very welcome to do so. However, if not, we may possibly be able to allocate you one of the band’s instruments. Please get in touch with us.
